CH2M Hill awarded Qatar World Cup contract

qatar-world-cupC2HM Hill has been awarded the programme management contract for the 2022 Fifa World Cup, which will be held in Qatar.

The contract was awarded by the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, which has responsibility for building venues, training facilities and supporting infrastructure for the tournament, including the expansion of Doha Airport and a proposed nationwide metro system.

CH2M Hill's contract will also cover the legacy aspects of the tournament, and will run to 2024 as a result.

Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee Technical Director, Yasir Al Jamal, said, "We are delighted to enter into this partnership with CH2M HILL. Over the next six months we will be working together to develop our road map, which will provide us with delivery timelines for the projects that will occupy us in the coming ten years."

The company says 2,000 over its total worldwide staff of 30,000 are based in the Middle East, with 200 in Qatar. It expects to mobilise more staff for the project in mid-February.
