Dubai South has awarded contracts worth US$272mn for project developments in the city’s planned Residential District, next to the Expo 2020 Dubai site
Parsons Corporation, Atkins Global, Studio International Architects, Al Nasr, Tristar Engineering & Construction and RNL Design are some of the companies that have been awarded infrastructure and design contracts.
Commenting on the move, Dubai South acting CEO Ahmed Al Ansari said, “Dubai South is reinventing the urban ecosystem by creating a city that is based primarily on the happiness and wellbeing of people. This entirely new and incomparable model of urban living puts people first, while celebrating nature and diverse populations, which come together to form a thriving and healthy community.”
Dubai South’s Residential District includes schools, nurseries, hospitals, retail outlets, post office, swimming academy and a sports centre. It is to have around 10,000 residential units between villas, townhouses and apartments by 2020 and is expecting to house around 35,000 residents.
The infrastructure development of the Residential District is planned to be completed in phases with work already well underway on the first section, which will be completed by Q4 2016, the company press release said.
Tristar Engineering & Construction has been awarded the infrastructure construction for the remaining areas of phase one, which is due to be completed in Q4 2017. Atkins Global, Studio International Architects and RNL Design have won contracts to oversee the master plan and product design for the mixed-use development within the Residential District, including apartments, townhouses, schools, community facilities, entertainment, retail and hospitality.
