Engineering and service company KONE has been chosen to deliver high-speed double decker elevators to Kingdom Tower at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia
Kingdom Tower is owned and being developed by Jeddah Economic Company (JEC) and is expected stand at a height of more than one kilometre after the completion of construction in 2018.
KONE will provide double deck elevators with a travel speed of 10 metres/second- making them the world’s fastest. Kingdom Tower will also have an elevator rise at 660 metres — the world's highest, stated the Finnish company.
Mounib Hammoud, CEO of Jeddah Economic Company, said, ”We have been highly impressed with KONE’s innovative solutions to high-rise buildings. This is another corner stone for a development of this magnitude and we look forward to creating this landmark building in all standards.”
The building will be equipped with 65 KONE elevators, including the Double Deck MiniSpace with KONE UltraRope hoisting technology, whci can enable elevator travel heights of upto one kilometre, eliminating the disadvantages of a steel rope.
The high-rise would have 21 KONE MonoSpace elevators, 29 KONE MiniSpace elevators, seven KONE DoubleDeck MiniSpace elevators and eight KONE TravelMaster 110 escalators, the company added.
KONE Areeco, the local team in Jeddah, has several flagship projects in Saudi Arabia including the Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel in Mecca, King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, the King Abdulaziz International Airport and the Headquarters Business Park in Jeddah.
