The municipality of Jeddah is set to invite tenders for the city's Metro train project soon
The minister of municipal and rural affairs, Mansour bin Miteb, made the announcement and added that King Abdullah had been paying close attention to infrastructural development projects in Saudi Arabia.
He also revealed a proposal to establish a metro train system in Riyadh following the completion of surveys and said that the metro would ease traffic congestion in the capital. The project has therefore been given priority status by the government.
The Jeddah metro will have three major lines. The first stretch, a 67km Orange Line with 22 stations will connect Mecca Road with Obhur. It will also include a branch line that will run east along Sari Street.
The second stretch, a 24km Blue Line, with 17 stations will link King Abdulaziz International airport to the Old Airport Road.
The third stretch, a 17km Green Line will run along the Palestine Road containing a branch line to the old airport.
