Metito eyes expansion plans

METITO, THE UAE-based utilities provider, is unlikely to go for an IPO this year and may opt to concentrate on aggressive expansions first.
  • Sohar Aluminium stake bought for US$400mn

    The Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), has signed an agreement to buy a 40 per cent stake in Sohar Aluminium Company (SAC) from the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) for US$400mn. SAC produces 360,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum and also owns and operates a 1,000 MW combined cycle captive power plant. SAC is a joint venture between the Oman Oil Company, ADWEA and Rio Tinto Alcan.

District cooling provider remains optimistic

District cooling is increasing in importance throughout the GCC, and Palm Utilities has a growth strategy to take advantage of any opportunities.

PDC currently provides district cooling services to a significant number of prestigious mega developments in the UAE, including the Gardens Residential Complex (25,000 TR), Jumeirah Islands (15,000 TR), Discovery Gardens (126,000 TR) and Palm Jumeirah Trunk (126,000 TR). Several developers all over the region are likewise increasingly deploying PDC's cost-efficient and environmentally friendly district cooling solutions.

Sharjah’s strategy to aid SME’s

THE SHARJAH CHAMBER of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has launched a Development Strategy for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in Sharjah, The move aims to enhance the role of private sector establishments in national economic growth and sustainable development. The announcement was made during a press conferenceat the Chamber’s building in the presence of SCCI Director General Hussein Mohammed Al Mahmoudi.

  • Two more gas turbines commissioned

    Two new gas turbines with a total production capacity of 400 MW will be commissioned by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) before the end of the current year, according to DEWA managing director and CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. The utility will also commission two desalination units with a total production capacity of 160,000 litres of water, in addition to four auxiliary boilers according to Al Tayer. The units of power generation and water desalination project (Station M) have come into service this year to raise the production capacity of both electricity and desalinated water of DEWA.
