Emirates Steel has revealed plans to develop structural steel with enhanced mechanical properties that is often required in offshore oil, gas and petrochemical projects
With investments in the GCC oil and gas sector increasing, the company has revealed its plan to produce steel to aid the oil and gas sector.
Emirates Steel CEO Saeed G Al Romaithi said, “We are now developing new grades with higher mechanical properties to meet market demand in the oil and gas sector.”
The new structural steel that the steelmaker has started developing will have impact strength even at -20°C.
Emirates Steel said that by producing these enhanced grades, the company was hoping to be in a better position to compete for a larger share of the heavy sections market in the MENA region.
Al Romaithi pointed out, “We have identified the product grades that are required by our customers and we are producing them to order.”
The GCC steelmaker has a capacity to produce one million tonnes of structural steel per year and has recently started to ramp up production.
Al Romaithi said, “We are in the middle of a transition. We are ramping up production, developing our product range and optimising our rolling mill efficiency.”
