ABB wins Saudi Electric transformer order

Power and automation technology group ABB has won orders worth around US$120mn from the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to supply transformers and increase capacity

The order, booked in the first quarter of 2013, will see ABB design, manufacture, supply and install the power transformers rated between 67MW and 100MW.

The transformers will be located at substations in the western, eastern, southern and central regions of the country, where the maximum ambient temperature reaches 55?C.

The transformers will be capable of withstanding thermal and mechanical stress caused by severe climate conditions, high altitude, cyclical loads and short circuit forces. The functional design will also incorporate optimal insulation to address the extreme temperature and sound pressure.

ABB power products division head Bernhard Jucker said, ?Saudi Arabia remains a key market for ABB and we are delighted to continue supporting the country in its efforts to strengthen its power infrastructure.

?ABB transformers are designed to maximise the availability while ensuring reliability and optimising efficiency. Our ongoing commitment to technical innovation combined with our vast global installed base and local market focus enables us to serve our customers with best-in-class solutions.?

ABB?s transformer portfolio includes power transformers rated up to 1,200kV, dry and liquid distribution transformers, traction and special application transformers as well as related services and components.
