Omantel replaces and expands national power park with John Deere-powered SDMO gensets

John Deere Power Systems Oman’s leading telecoms provider Omantel replaces and expands national power park with John Deere-powered SDMO generator sets

Within a framework contract signed in March 2016, SDMO Industries has supplied 252 John Deere-powered generator sets to Omantel, Oman’s first and leading integrated telecommunications provider. The order replaces and expands Omantel’s power park of SDMO J-33 generator sets, and underscores its continued confidence in the manufacturer’s reliable, cost-effective power solutions tailored to the Omani telecommunications sector.

Omantel opted for the same J33 33-kVA (26kWe) 50Hz model generator sets for their proven low cost of ownership and reliability. The prime power units will provide electricity to Omantel’s telecom cell towers and shelters, and are fitted with a 12V charge alternator and starter, and a John Deere 12V 30kW 2.9L bare engine.

SDMO Industries equipped the generator sets for conditions in Oman, including a radiator for 48/50ºC core temperature and a Telys control panel providing more realtime performance data, such as revolutions per minute and battery voltage. Reliable in the toughest conditions, the John Deere engine offers great fuel economy, ease of maintenance and robust features such as wet-type cylinder liners, forged-steel connecting rods and sealed water pumps.

Omantel is committed to delivering unmatched communications experience nationwide, even in remote areas. To deliver on this promise, Omantel works with partners such as SDMO Industries who share their collaborative and innovative spirit, understand their challenges and have the expertise to meet the company’s specific needs.

SDMO Industries brings innovative and advanced power solutions to industries worldwide, from one to 4,200kVA generator sets to complete, customised power plants. Facing everchanging customer power requirements and stringent emission regulations, SDMO works closely with John Deere Power Systems in Saran, France. “John Deere constantly pushes the limits of technology to offer OEMs flexibility, performance and fuel efficiency,” says Philippe Forest, communication department manager at SDMO.

John Deere’s lineup of standby and prime generator set engines range from 30 to 450kVA. Many power nodes are available in both bare and power unit configuration and as dual frequency, giving OEMs ultimate flexibility. With more than 4,000 service locations and distributors worldwide, qualified and expert service is always nearby. In the UAE, OEM customers can count on John Deere distributor Genavco.

Forest comments, “John Deere engines offer great value, combining exceptional power density, outstanding fuel consumption and proven durability. This supports our efforts to develop competitive, cost-effective generator sets that provide our customers with reliable, low-cost power.”

Fabien Corvaisier, area manager of John Deere Power Systems, concludes, “As preferred engine supplier to SDMO Industries, we appreciate the opportunity to design innovative, relevant solutions within a collaborative relationship that will continue to provide new growth opportunities for both companies.”
