UAE-based Empower has signed a deal with the Al Habtoor Group to develop a district cooling network of 17,500 refrigerated tonnes (RT) for its mixed-use city project
According to Empower, these district cooling systems could help save up to 50 per cent of the total power consumption. The project for Al Habtoor City will be delivered in three phases, with the first phase scheduled for completion in May 2015.
Al Habtoor City is an integrated hospitality and entertainment complex that will come up on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. It has been scheduled for completion in 2016. The project is expected to house three hotels, 11 penthouses, food and beverage outlets, a Las Vegas-style aqua theatre and the world’s first Bentley café.
Empower chief executive officer Ahmad bin Shafar said, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to supply district cooling systems to one of the most exciting developments in Dubai.”
Al Habtoor Group chief executive officer Mohammed K Al Habtoor said, “District cooling provides healthy and environment-friendly air conditioning, and add value to the aesthetics of realty. While considering district cooling systems for Al Habtoor City, Empower was our first choice due to their project handling, technical, operational and innovation capabilities.”
