Engineering and construction firm Bechtel?s David Welch has spoken of his confidence in the continued growth of the UAE?s construction sector

Speaking at the Construction Week UAE Infrastructure conference this week, Welch, president of Bechtel Europe, Asia and Middle East, said that Dubai 2020 will further boost the already thriving industry.

Welch said, ?The UAE remains well positioned to continue to develop its infrastructure, its strategy of diversification and its importance to the global marketplace. By 2020, Dubai and the UAE will be a global hub in every sense.?

Dubai 2020 will be the first time the World Expo has ever been staged in the Middle East, and the event is expected to boost the Emirate?s GDP growth by around five per cent.

The UAE is already one of the fastest growing economies in the world this year, according to a recent Bloomberg survey, while Dubai ranks among the top climbers in the Economist?s 2025 City Competitiveness Index.

Bechtel is involved in a number of infrastructure projects in the UAE and the wider Middle East region, including Riyadh Metro, Muscat Airport, the UAE?s US$3bn Shaheen Alumina Refinery, and Borouge 3 in Abu Dhabi.
