Chinese vessel inaugurates new Asia-Europe shipping route

The CSCL Mercury has completed its maiden journey of the new joint service between China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) and United Arab Shipping Line (UASL) after docking at the Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT) in eastern UAE

UAE?s leading shipping operator Gulftainer welcomed the CSCL Mercury. The joint service caters to vessels between Asia and Europe, stated officials from Gulftainer.

The Asia-Europe route caters to 11 ultra-large container vessels (ULCVs), six vessels provided by CSCL and five by UASC. The vessel schedule covers ports in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and France. It operates in Jeddah, (via the Suez Canal), Khorfakkan and Jebel Ali in the UAE, and the Far East in Singapore, South Korea and China.

During its maiden voyage, CSCL Mercury completed cargo operations ahead of schedule by achieving a gross productivity rate in excess of 150 movements per hour with four gantry cranes, added officials.

The terminal manager at KCT said that the terminal is witnessing an "exciting period in expansion? by drawing on the positive growth curve in global trade and development of new services by leading shipping companies.
