Turbine Services & Solutions (TS&S) has delivered the first full life overhaul on a Siemens Industrial Trent gas turbine

It took 50,000 service hours and the work took place in the TS&S Abu Dhabi workshop. TS&S is wholly owned by Mubadala Investment Company and the project represents a major technical milestone for Abu Dhabi and the UAE. This was achieved by TS&S with the assistance of skilled engineers, technical support and training teams from Siemens. As a result, TS&S have been able to leverage Siemens' training experience so TS&S engineers and technicians are now qualified to perform independently for future repair and overhaul services.

In 2016, TS&S was accredited as the first independently owned MRO provider with the capacity to support the Industrial Trent WLE and DLE variants for Siemens. Since 2007, Siemens and TS&S have been in partnership.

Abdullah Al Shadid, chairman of TS&S, said: ?This operational milestone is one to celebrate. Due to its established partnership with Siemens and other OEMs, TS&S has become a world-class player, as well as a home-grown champion for the burgeoning MRO industry in the region. TS&S continues to strengthen its strategic offering as it emerges as a reliable partner to industry players operating within a geography that contains many oil and gas, and industrial businesses.?

The success of the Siemens project reflects the ongoing growth of TS&S, according to Ali Al Hosani, general manager of TS&S. He said that the company is expanding into the Pakistani and Indonesian markets. Another major project which TS&S has in the pipeline is the complete relocation of a 100MW power station.

In regard to the technical challenges of such enormous projects, Mr Al Hosani said that he views any obstacles "in a positive way, for our own benefits."

He added that the low oil price environment has been to the company's advantage because it provides maintenance services which many operators are finding more cost-effective than expensive replacements.

"This is a positive for us," said Mr Al Hosani.

John Panton, Capability Project Manager, Siemens, commented: ?We are pleased that TS&S with support from Siemens have completed their first industrial Trent full-life engine overhaul. The teamwork and collaboration involved with the successful completion of this key milestone capability for the region was substantial ultimately resulting in improved global service network coverage.  It will be significant in terms of supporting and developing the Siemens AGT and TS&S businesses."

The Siemens Industrial Trent (SGT-A65TR) is one of the most advanced aero-derivative gas turbine available today for the oil and gas and power generation industries, delivering up to 65MW of electric power in simple cycle service.
